I have already seen the above mentioned on several sites.

So it might be a reasonable option to at least consider an alternative to the Play Store.
Some people just want to download an APK → using GitHub to release the APKs is a reasonable idea (this can also be done with Codeberg or GitLab, by the way).

Other people prefer F-Droid.

One advantage is a slightly wider reach. The Facebook platform is also closed. If you do that on purpose, that’s understandable. Code contributions/reviews don’t necessarily have to go through repository hosts (e.g., GitHub).
